Have you ever been to Avalon market Day?
If you haven’t, it’s an event worth marking in the calendar… if you have – you’ll know why. Avalon Market Day (Northern Beaches largest Market) spills through the streets of central Avalon, which are blocked off and filled with hundreds of decorated stalls. You can guarantee Sunday 17th of November will be no ordinary Sunday in Avalon – it’s a day of fun, shopping and entertainment – a community event that you and the family don’t want to miss.
The upper Northern Beaches is bustling with community events, especially in Spring & Summer. Throughout the year we have regular local markets, car boot sales, charity events and fairs. The annual Avalon Market Day, however, is the crown jewel in the peninsula market calendar.
With a long and proud history in the area, Avalon Market Day has been running for over 30 years now. Over time, it has become Sydney’s largest market day and one of the Northern Beaches most successful events. It is hosted by the Avalon Palm Beach Business Chamber and supported by the Northern Beaches Council, local businesses and the wider community.
The event is traditionally held on the third Sunday in November, meaning that this year’s event falls on Sunday 17 November from 9am to 4pm. The main streets of Avalon Beach village and Dunbar Park will again come alive with amazing music, a fantastic array of market stalls selling fashion, jewellery and homewares, organic and sustainable products, as well as many gourmet food stalls featuring some of the area’s best chefs and producers.
An estimated 40,000 people are expected to fill the streets of Avalon – yes it is going to be busy! Brimming with life, excited children, cute dogs and Christmas shoppers, it’s a day out to enjoy for the whole family.
Among the many treasures, you can shop for at these markets will be homewares, crafts, art, books, clothes and toys, including for your pets. There’re always loads of amazing attractions to keep the kids busy and entertained too. Based on past events, some of the many fun things you can expect to find include face painting, a jumping castle, bungee trampoline rides, animal rides, balloon benders, dodgem cars, and a petting zoo. For the adults, some of the area’s best musicians will be captivating the crowds with an all-day line-up of great entertainment. Roving entertainers, such as stilt walkers, will be making their way through the crowds too.
Bring your four-legged friends along and be sure to register early for the Dog Show, sponsored by the Avalon Veterinary Hospital and raising funds for Sydney’s Animals for Everyone (S.A.F.E) through gold coin donations. There will be prizes on offer for Best Trick, Best Dressed, Best in Show and ‘Waggiest Tail’.
There’s so much to explore, It’s a good idea to pack your cossies and plenty of sunscreen and making a big day out of it with the whole family.
